About the event
CoMSID-2022 — the Conference on Materials and Sustainable Industrial Development — was held on 14th March 2022 in the auditorium of the School of Chemical and Materials Engineering (SCME), NUST. The conference brought together students, academics, and industry leaders in a single room to have serious scholarly conversations about applied materials science, and to strengthen the working relationship between Pakistan’s universities and its industrial sector.
The programme was organised around advances in nanotechnology and sustainable materials development. Keynote speakers and industry experts from internationally recognised organisations addressed nanomaterials, energy materials, synthetic biomaterials, green nanomaterials, and the applied challenges these fields are trying to solve.
Opening ceremony
The inaugural session opened with Tilawat-e-Quran and remarks from Prof. Dr. Amir Azam Khan, Principal SCME. Dr. Hassina Tabassum, CEO WEmpower Pakistan, delivered the WEmpower opening remarks. Special talks followed from the Guest of Honour, Prof. Dr. Mohammad Mujahid (Rector, Pak-Austria Fachhochschule), and the Chief Guest, Prof. Dr. Tahir Irfan Khan (Vice Chancellor, Abbottabad University).

- Prof. Husnain Janjua — Professor, Atta-ur-Rahman School of Applied Biosciences (ASAB), NUST. Spoke on Biogenic Nanomaterials for their Applications in Pharmaceutical and Food Industry.

Event co-organisers
WEmpower Pakistan, in collaboration with NUST’s School of Chemical and Materials Engineering (SCME), put CoMSID-2022 together with the explicit goal of narrowing the gap between industry and academia. Both organisations have long-standing traditions of running seminars and talks on contemporary research topics of national and international significance.
